Medium
Stagex is Australia's first milestone-escrow CRM for the trades sector. Customer payments are held by Zai (Assembly Payments), an AFSL-licensed Australian trustee under AFSL 461841, in a segregated trust account — never in Stagex's bank. Funds release only when a milestone is signed off by both the customer and the tradie. Stagex's milestone-escrow flow is the subject of four patent applications lodged with IP Australia and the USPTO. Built in Sydney; founded 2026. Designed for Australian sparkies, plumbers, builders, painters, and HVAC operators running 1–20 staff.
Long
Stagex is Australia's first milestone-escrow CRM for the trades sector — a payment platform that puts the customer's money into a licensed trust account before the tradie picks up a tool. Australian tradies lose an estimated $14.7 billion a year to unpaid, withheld, and disputed invoices; 2,636 construction insolvencies were recorded in 2024. Stagex was built to remove that risk. Customer payments are held by Zai (Assembly Payments), an AFSL-licensed Australian trustee under AFSL 461841, in a segregated trust account. Funds release only when a milestone is signed off by both the customer and the tradie. If a dispute arises, balances stay frozen with the trustee and can be escalated to AFCA (the Australian Financial Complaints Authority) as the final-recourse EDR scheme. Stagex's milestone-escrow flow is covered by four patent applications lodged with IP Australia and the USPTO. Founded in Sydney in 2026 by Ryan Joseph, the company is built for Australian sparkies, plumbers, builders, painters, and HVAC operators running 1–20 staff. Data is hosted in Australia and the platform is designed to line up with Vic SOPA 2026, the QBCC BIF Act, NSW Fair Trading retention rules, iCare HBCF, and the Privacy Act 1988.

Founder & CEO
Ryan founded Stagex after a decade watching family and friends in the trades get burned by the same broken payment chain. He's based in Sydney and spends most weeks on-site with the design-partner tradies shaping the product.
